Lessons from Sports and Faith…

Matthew 6:33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.  We discussed yesterday that sports can have a proper place in the Christian life.  The proper place should never be first place!  The Christian’s life should be lived in a way that everything we do should revolve around God’s glory.  Consider…1 Corinthians 10:31  Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.  We can and should do our best, but not for earthly gain alone, but rather to bring Glory to the Savior.  Just about anything in life can become an idol.  That which keeps you from God’s purpose for your life is idolatry.
For years, there was a shelf in my shop with trophies that my son and I received in tournament archery.  They were nothing more than dust collectors.   As the years went by they lost more and more of their meaning. Finally I got tired of dusting them and discarded them.  In the end, only those things that bring God glory will last.  The rest will fade away.  Let’s determine in our hearts…Colossians 3:23  And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;   Amen.
