Ephesians 6:1-2 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.  Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
Here our Lord give instruction to children… obey and honor. I recall the story of a teenage boys conversation… I’m tired of the rules around here, someone always telling me what to do.  This was his problem, the solution… I’m going to join the Marines!  He probably did the right thing, with a brain like that college was out of the question!
Obeying and honoring our parent is not so much a smarts issue as it is a heart issue.  When I would preach to the men in prison, often I would say… most if not all of you men can trace your problems back to a lack of respect for the authority that God placed in your life.  For civilation, the home, the church,  or any business to thrive, someone must lead the way.  Christ is to be the head of the man, and the man is to be the by head of the home.   We all have flesh! The flesh does not like to submit.   We must submit if we are to please the Lord.  Notice… James 4:7  Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Which comes first, submit or resist?  Too many are trying to resist, yet not trusting to submit!  Lord, help us this day to yield to the authority you have placed in our lives.  Amen.  Pastor
