1 Timothy 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Timothy was a young man. He was Paul’s son in the faith! What a blessing to have a few sons and daughters in the faith! Paul knew others would be watching Timothy. Did you know someone is watching you? Our Lord is calling on us to be an example of the believers. In Word… the believer must be careful what they say and how they say it! Words are like arrows. Once they leave the mouth, you can’t reach out and grab them and put them back in. Slow to speak, swift to hear, that is the prescription for a good example in word. Then, an example in conversation, understanding that this word means manner of life, or the way we behave. If we believe right, we will behave right! Love not in word and in tongue, but in deed and in truth. An example in charity is referring to making sure our speech and our actions are wrapped up in love. 1 Corinthians 13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. In spirit, pointing to the fact it is the inner man that makes the difference. That new man in Christ. We must be an example in faith because without faith, it is impossible to please God! Lastly, an example in purity. Our Lord wants us to be Holy, for He is Holy. Purity among believers is looked down on by the world. Just remember, our Lord is looking for those who will be a powerful example, determined to be pure in an ungodly world. Others are watching, Christ is too, God help us to be that powerful example that will point others to Christ. Amen. Pastor
