Black ice…

1 Corinthians 10:12  Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.  Black ice can present a very hazardous condition.   The main reason it is so dangerous is because it’s usually too late before you discover it.  When you experience black ice while driving a car it’s too late to hit the brakes!  The best thing to do is be aware of the conditions, slow down, and proceed with caution.  Many times in life we slip or fall because we are confident in our own ability to stand.  Consider Paul’s admonition… Philippians 3:3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.
My dad and I were working on a roof one morning.   The frost had not yet melted off.  In just a few moments I heard a thud.  My dad had fallen and went sliding down the roof.  He fell two and a half stories.   He broke his back, his shoulder, and three ribs.  It would have been much better to wait for the icy condition to thaw.  In life, the Bible instructs us to avoid those things that have the potential to cause us to fall.  We are admonished to avoid making provision for the flesh.
Each one of us are subject to fall.  Remember this, we will not only hurt ourselves if we fall, we will hurt others also.  Even moreso,  it grieves the Savior for he’s the one who sees the slick spots, and specializes in guiding His children around them.  The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.   Lord, help us to stand, not in our own strength, but rather in the power of your might. Amen.  Pastor
