Tell Me Why…

1 Peter 3:15  But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:  My wife and I are the grateful parents of four children,  eleven grandchildren,  and soon to be four great grandchildren! Shew!
What a crew God has blessed us with!  When children are beginning to be curious about things there’s an age old question they ask… why?  As Bible believers we too may run upon people that seek answers to the why.  Why do you go to church?  Why do you give to God’s work?  Why don’t you participate in this or that?  Why do you believe the Bible?  On and on we could go.  Peter tells us in our text to be ready to give an answer to those who ask a reason for the hope that lieth in you.  Now notice… with meakness and fear.  Some will ask why out of genuine curiosity.   Others will ask in an argumentative spirit while just trying to trip up or embarrass the believer.  They did the same thing with our Lord.   Let me address the why briefly… pastor, why do you do the things you do?  Because I love Jesus!  Why do you love Jesus?  Because He first loved me!  How do you know that?  Because the Bible says it’s so.
How do you know the Bible is true?  Because it has produced a change in my life that cannot be explained otherwise.  The same is true in the lives of many others as well.  I tried everything in the world, then  tried everything in the church, still no peace.  But…
Oh happy day when the precious Holy Spirit convicted me of my sin, helped me to swallowed my pride, and convinced me that what I needed was not to be found in trying, but simply by TRUSTING the Lord Jesus.  Oh happy day indeed!  February 22, 1987.  I will soon celebrate my 39th spiritual birthday!  I experienced a birth in 1959 I can’t remember,  and a second birth in 1987 I can’t forget!  Someone may ask you a reason for the hope you have today.  Be ready!  Amen.  Pastor
