Watch and Pray…

Mark 13:33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.  With the coming of the Lord in mind what could be more important than being ready?  Readiness can only be accomplished through watching and praying.  Watching and praying will only be accomplished through believing.  Believing will only be accomplished by a steady diet of God’s word.  Those who truly believe Jesus is coming have an intense desire to please Him, to meet Him, and to be like Him.   The day of His coming will not overtake the believer like a thief in the night, for the believer is awake, alert, and watching the Eastern sky!   When I was a kid, there were several occasions my uncle would visit with his beagles.  I could hardly sleep the  night before thinking about an opportunity to shoulder that little 410 shotgun my dad gave me to get us a rabbit for the frying pan!  Most of us have a hobby or a sport we really look forward to with great anticipation.  We as God’s children should be even more excited about the coming of our Lord.   This will be the culmination of a life well lived, and  a Savior well served. Watching is much more effective from an elevated position. Fortified cities in Bible times had watch towers.  The believer who is looking for Christ’s return will not be entangled in the things of this world.   Jesus said in Mark 13:35-37…  Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.  And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.
Good advice!  Amen.  Pastor
