Mark 14:3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.
When compared to the parallel text in John’s gospel, we find that this woman was indeed Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarus. We find in Mary’s life a deep sense of Devotion. In Luke 10:39 we find Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus, hearing His word, while Martha at the same time is cumbered about with much serving. Because of Mary’s love for the Lord, it was easy to give to Jesus something that was precious to her. I wonder, what is Jesus worth to us? What are some precious things we could commit to Him?
The absolute most precious thing you and I have is our soul.
I committed my soul to Jesus for safe keeping in February of 1987. Consider please…2 Timothy 1:12 … I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. Do you know that? Something else that is precious is our time. As I grow older I realize time is a very precious commodity. I love spending time with my children and grandchildren. Time with my precious wife is invaluable to me. Time in the house of God with His dear people is precious. What about time with the Lord? That time should be a priority in the life of the believer. It is precious time for us as well as for Him! Many have wonderful talents. There are so many ways that we might be a blessing and a help to God’s work here on earth. The Devil will tell you the same thing Judas told Mary… It’s a waste! Listen to me, only one life, will soon be past, only what’s done for Jesus will last! After all our Lord has given to us and for us, how can we neglect to live for Him? Amen. Pastor
