Mark 14:41
And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Our Lord will soon be hanging on the cross, giving his life that we might live. Jesus is now in the Garden of Gethsemene, he asks Peter, James, and John to watch and pray. This is the third time now he finds them sleeping. The agony in the heart of Jesus cannot be measured. His sweat becomes as great drops of blood. “Oh my Father, if it be possible let this cup pass from me. Nevertheless, not my will but thine be done.” In that cup was your sin and mine, the sin of the entire world. In that cup was separation from God.
Jesus would cry… My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me. Yet He was willing to drink that bitter cup. Jesus new the Spirit was willing, but their flesh was weak. I could be wrong, but I believe many of God’s people today are asleep spiritually. There’s no burden, no tears, no desire to deny ourselves and take up the cross and follow Him. Jesus has instructed us to watch and pray.
Will he find us serving, or will he find us sleeping. Consider these verses please…
1 Corinthians 15:34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame. Romans 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. Do we really know the time? He’s coming again! May the Lord help us to overcome the spirit of apathy and arise to serve Him in these last days.
1 Thessalonians 5:6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. Are we sleeping, or serving?Amen. Pastor
