1 Timothy 6:17  Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;  Our text reveals several truths that we should take to heart.  Paul is instructing Timothy to warn those who are rich in this world.
The rich are admonished not to be highminded.  I have met people who I would consider to be rich yet those same people were humble. As a matter of fact you would never know from their conversation or actions that they were rich.  They knew everything they had was received from the hand of the Lord.   Then Timothy is instructed to warn the rich not to trust in uncertain riches, but to trust in the Lord.  A dear friend of mine quoted his mother often… she would say…
“Son, your health is your wealth.”  One sickness, or one tragedy can wipe out a lifetime of savings.  The riches of this world are very uncertain.   We could wake up one morning and the dollar not be worth the paper it is printed on!  That will never be true of that blessed ole book we call the Bible!  The scriptures are valued so much that God has them settled in Heaven!  It is wise to put your trust in those things that are certain.  Many today are caught in the snare of uncertain riches. 
Their entire purpose and focus is on the temporal instead of the eternal.  Perhaps this verse sums up the truth concerning uncertain riches… Proverbs 13:7  There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.  The greatest riches are not obtained by our efforts, they are acquired by faith!  Consider please… Luke 16:11  If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
Be faithful with your time, your talent, and your tithe, and you will not be engulfed in uncertain, but rather the true riches.  Amen.  Pastor
