1 Samuel 3:10  And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.   There is a line in a song that says, “Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling.”
We don’t hear an audible voice,  but we know when Jesus is calling!  He calls us to salvation as well as to His service.   When we walk with the Lord, He speaks through His Spirit to our hearts.  In our text, Samuel thinks it is Eli, the priest, that is calling him.  Eli instructed Samuel the next time he heard that voice to say “Speak, for thy servant heareth.”  I had the privilege recently to attend a camp meeting.   The preacher told me after the meeting that the Lord led him to preach a different message than he had originally intended.   That message was exactly what a young lady needed to hear!  That young lady trusted Jesus as her Savior!
I am so glad God’s servant was able to hear and deliver God’s
message for that very hour.   I am afraid that many times we as God’s servants are too busy or too distracted to hear that still small voice that desires to lead us.  For different reasons, I have lost a great deal of my ability to hear with my physical ears.  On this day, I pray I never lose the ability to hear with my spiritual ear.  How very sad that would be!  All seven churches in Revelation 2 and 3 are instructed with these words- “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.  In life there will be occasions when someone will say… “Did you hear that?”  Let’s ask God to speak to our hearts this day.  Speak Lord, for thy servant heareth thee.  Amen.
