Psalm 100:5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
Luis Palau, in “Experiencing God’s Forgiveness” writes… A mother once approached Napoleon seeking a pardon for her son. The emperor replied that the young man had committed a certain offense twice and justice demanded death. “But I don’t ask for justice,” the mother explained. “I plead for mercy.” “But your son does not deserve mercy,” Napoleon replied. “Sir,” the woman cried, “it would not be mercy if he deserved it, and mercy is all I ask for.” “Well, then,” the emperor said, “I will have mercy.” And he spared the woman’s son. It is only because of God’s goodness and mercy that anyone will enter Heaven. In the story above what stands out the most is that mercy is never deserved. When someone asked my dad- How are you doing? His reply was always this- better than I deserve! The same is true of every child of God that has come to Jesus in repentance and faith seeking His forgiveness. Justice called, we deserved to die! Thank God mercy answered! The Primitive Quartet sing this line in song… the only fire I’ll ever feel is burning in my heart! There’s only one way to escape the flames of Hell, flee to a merciful God and plead for mercy! Amen.
