Do your Duty…

Luke 17:10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do. There should be no room in the Christian’s life for slothfulness! The scripture tells us in James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. Several years ago I got a call from my son, he said dad, I want to thank you. I said, for what son, he replied…for teaching me how to work. I’m not quite sure that was entirely his attitude as a teenager! Consider…Ephesians 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. We are to work not only to supply our own needs but that we may be in a position to help others also. My dad used to say, son, some people are so lazy they wouldn’t take a job in a pie factory tasting pies! It is incumbent upon God’s people to remember our duty to God and man. May the Lord help us to perform that duty with a spirit of humility. I don’t have to serve the Lord, I GET TO! I don’t have to serve others, I GET TO! What a privilege and blessing! Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Pastor
