Jonah 4:4 Then said the LORD, Doest thou well to be angry?
In the book of Jonah, God instructed Jonah to go to Niniveh and cry out against their sin. At first, Jonah ran from the call. After three days and nights in the seaweed wagon, Jonah changed his mind! A backslid profit is enough to make a whale throw up! Perhaps the reason he ran from the call is found in chapter four. Somehow, Jonah knew God was merciful, longsuffering, and full of compassion. I wonder how much better the world would be if every child of God realized NONE OF US deserves His mercy! Do we see the multitudes as Jesus did? He was moved with compassion when He saw the multitudes scattered, as sheep having no shepherd. Are we at all moved by the condition of our country, our community, our churches? We could have a genuine revival if we could begin to see people the way God sees them. Nineveh is depicted as a city rife with violence, bloodshed, lies, and oppression. Sounds a lot like the cities in America today, doesn’t it? Jesus demonstrated His great love by laying down His life. May God help us to think about how we might also demonstrate His great love to others. Jude 1:22 And of some have compassion, making a difference: Lord, help us please to make a difference in the lives of others because you made a difference in us. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
