Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Have you ever done something that was foolish? Looking back you can say if I had only… I reckon to some degree we all have! The worst examples are when we have been instructed properly, yet we go ahead and proceed our own way. I use to watch my dad tune up his old truck. Those were the days when a complete tune up included plugs, plug wires, points, condenser, rotor button, and rotor cap. I just spoke Greek to some of you! Dad said son, don’t remove all the wires at once. Remove one at a time, match length with new one and replace. Well, I became a teenager and learned the firing order was on the manifold. So…I got this! Took all the wires off and proceeded with tune up. Guess what? When I tried to start it, it coughed n belched n backfired! Immediately I began to think…DAD WAS RIGHT! I learned that lesson the hard way! It would have been so much easier to listen and learn from the instructor! I’ll let you in on a secret, my dad was not always right. But…Our Heavenly Father is! Our verse says fools despise wisdom and instruction. That day as a teenager I felt pretty foolish! A wise man learns from his mistakes, a wiser man learns from the mistakes of others as well. We have a Bible filled with examples of people who made horrific mistakes. It is also filled with examples of people who lived in obedience to God. Which example will we follow?
