Temptation of Jesus…

Mark 1:13 And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.  Yesterday’s devotion dealt with the Baptism of our Lord.  Immediately following, we find that our Lord was led of the Spirit into the wilderness to face excruciating temptation.
It’s in my heart to magnify a very important truth here.  One of the most vulnerable times in the life of a Christian is following a time of great victory.
We tend to let our guard down in these seasons of life.  Jesus had just heard the Father say…”This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.”  Now he finds himself in a very dangerous place.  There are wild beasts.   There are no comforts.  There is intense hunger.  Angels came and ministered unto Him.  Now, He comes face to face with Satan himself.  Question… do you think for a moment Satan is going to sit idly by when God’s people are enjoying victory in their lives?  He despised Adam and Eve because they were made in the image of God and enjoyed a wonderful fellowship with the creator.  Ol slewfoot was determined to mess it up, and mess it up he did!  Through temptation!  The next time you’re tempted, consider this…1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.  God made Jesus a way of escape!  He makes a way for us as well!  Tomorrow we will examine the details, Lord willing.   Pastor
