Acts 16:25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. Paul and Silas could have easily focused their attention on the opposition. They could have fallen into the trap of self pity and murmered against God. The dark hour in their lives produced prayer and praise instead. Years ago, I was in a bad accident. My vertebrae crushed in the thoracic spine. When I regained consciousness, they loaded me in the ambulance. (I wanted my wife to take me home but she declined!) As soon as the siren lit up I began to witness to the paramedic. He was having some dark days in his life as well. When the trials come, and they will, may our Lord help us to be looking for opportunities to pray and praise and ultimately be a help to others! Notice in the text…the prisoners heard them! What do others hear from us in the trying days, the dark times of life? It could make a difference in someone’s life, and more importantly, their eternity. Had Paul and Silas been complaining, the prisoners may have fled when the prison doors flew open. Instead, they were all there, and the Phillipian jailer as well as his family were saved that night. The question then, is the question now…what must I do to be saved? The answer remains the same…Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved! God help us that believe right to behave right, even in the dark hours. After all, someone is listening and watching. Lord Jesus, help us to see the opportunities set before us. Pastor
