Come, we that love the Lord, And let our joys be known;
Join in a song with sweet accord,
And thus surround the throne.
Refrain: We’re marching to Zion,
Beautiful, beautiful Zion;
We’re marching upward to Zion,
The beautiful city of God.
What a blessed song! Truly God’s people are headed to a city who’s builder and maker is God. Think with me a moment about marching. Some things to note…consider the definition of marching according to Websters 1828 dictionary… to move in a steady, rhythmic manner, or to move in a direct and purposeful way.
When soldiers in the military march it is at the direction of their commander. The commander determines their rhythm and their direction. He also has a destination in mind! When the Lord saved us he became the captain of our salvation! He knew the day he saved us the direction he would lead us, as well as the destination he was leading us to! When Jesus prayed in John 17:24 listen to His request…Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. The Lord is looking forward to the day when we will be with Him and see Him as he is! Should we not look for and long for that day as well. As we begin the month of March…march on children for soon and very soon we are going to see the King!
