- God’s pursuit of His people…
Jonah 2:4 Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.
This verse is referring to Jonah, the prophet of God. He thought he could outrun the Lord. That, my friend is a fools errand! Jonah went DOWN to Joppa, DOWN into the sides of the ship, DOWN into the sea, and then DOWN in the belly of the whale! Down, down, down! Going away from God and His will is always a downward spiral!
Jonah found out he absolutely could not outrun the Lord. The Lord pursuing Jonah reminds me of the shepherd who leaves the ninety and nine to go after that one lost sheep. I’m so glad He pursues sinners and saints as well! It’s all because of His great love. May God help us not to run FROM Him but rather TO Him. Many think of the Lord enjoying punishing His children. He doesn’t enjoy correcting His children but He sure does enjoy the result! Our Lord is pictured in the father in the story of the prodigal son. He’s not waiting with a stick, but rather a ring, some rejoicing, and a celebration of our return home.
When we were kids, my brother ran from my pregnant mother. She stood on the porch and said… “That’s ok son, you’ll get hungry!” When a believer gets hungry, he’ll gladly return to the one pursuing him! The whale got sick of Jonah and Jonah got sick of the whale. God had officially caught up with His man! Where you headed Jonah? Niniveh, where I should have went to start with! Pastor
