2 Corinthians 1:8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: Years ago I was reading the label on an airasol can. It read, CONTENTS UNDER PRESSURE. It was a warning to be careful how the can was handled or it might explode! Today, let’s think about another aspect of dealing with the various pressures that we often face. Most every home has a hot water tank installed. On the side of the tank near the top is what is called a pop off valve. It is there in case the temperature gets too hot or the pressure gets too great, at which point the valve will open, relieving the pressure lest the tank explode! Did you know that human beings have a pop off valve as well? If you look in the mirror it is located right under your nose! Have you ever felt like you would explode, only to find the pop off valve flew open? No wonder our Lord instructs us in His word to be swift to hear and slow to speak. May I tell you from experience that it is much better to pray before you pop than after! If you are a genuine child of God, you will pray! It’s much better to ask for the Lord’s help beforehand! When the mouth opens to relieve pressure, it’s never good. Hurtful things will be said. Then, repentance and reconciliation will be necessary. Yes, contents at times are under extreme pressure. Make sure to seek help from the only one who can help with the pressure so we may respond to pressure without being offensive. Amen. Pastor
