Matthew 26:58 But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest’s palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end. Peter was very bold in his speech. He told Jesus he would go with him even unto death. Sometimes, our words do not line up with our actions. There is a danger in the life of the believer when this distance develops. It’s dangerous because, at a distance, it is difficult to hear His voice! How we need to walk close to the master so that we may be able to hear the guidance our Lord gives His sheep. At a distance, it is difficult as well to sense His heartbeat. John leaned on Jesus’ bosom in the upper room. John also went with Him all the way to the cross! At a distance, you’ll find yourself in the wrong crowd the way Peter did. Warming by the world’s fire instead of warming by the words fire. Jeremiah was discouraged, ready to quit, but he could not because God’s word was like a fire burning in his heart! Stay close, don’t drift off from the Lord. Drifting can produce doubting, which in turn can end up in denial of the precious Savior who bled and died that we might live. Should there be a distance in your life today, why not take the first step toward Him? I know from experience that when you make a step toward Him, He will run toward you! Read the story of the prodigal. You’ll see! What a Savior! Peter learned that his failure was not final. The Lord used him in a mighty way. Our Lord is just as merciful today as He was then. Amen.
