Matthew 9:37-38 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
Just before preparing this devotion I was on the phone with a pastor friend in Ohio. He was telling me that in his area the soybeans have already been harvested and they are beginning to harvest the corn.
Now days there are huge pieces of machinery that are used in the harvesting of grain. In Jesus’s day this was not the case. The work was done manually. It was hard work!
Wouldn’t it be something if we had a machine that harvested souls! Two, three, four streets at a time! It simply doesn’t work that way! God uses people to reach other people with the gospel!
Listen to what Jesus told his disciples…John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
Jesus had just won the woman at the well. His disciples did not see her as part of God’s plan. Aren’t you glad our Lord saw us in His plan? Bless His name! His plan was not only for our own redemption, but to use us in His harvest field to glean others as well! Is your heart open to being used in the Lord’s harvest? Are your eyes open, looking for opportunities to share the Lord Jesus with someone else? If we would but open our eyes and hearts, I believe we would say with Isaiah of old… Here am I, send me. Amen.
