1 Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. No doubt Jesse, the Father of David, was excited when Samuel came to annoint one of his sons to be King of Israel. Perhaps he thought surely it would be his eldest, Eliab. Samuel quickly found out God does not choose the way man does! While many are looking at the stature of a man, the Lord is looking on the heart. David had a heart for the Savior! He knew the joy of fellowshipping with the Lord. He said… “In thy presence is fulness of joy!” David also had a heart for the sheep! He later would tell Saul how he delivered his sheep from the paw of the lion and the bear! Then David had a heart for the scripture. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. David also had a heart for souls. I’m reminded of the occasion after Saul’s death when David asked… Is there any left of the house of Saul that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake? David welcomed Mephibosheth to the kings table to eat bread continually! What a reflection of God’s heart and what a picture of grace! Amen! Pastor
