Exodus 5:2 And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go. Listen to Pharaoh’s question… Who is the Lord that I should obey His voice? The ultimate form of pride is on full display. I’m reminded of an incident in my childhood. My brother came home from school, my mom told him to take the trash out. He promptly replied… “My teacher said I don’t have to do what you tell me to do.” Long story short, he quickly changed his mind! Mom had a way! Now Pharaoh is not going to quickly change his mind about what God is telling him to do. But…
After ten different plagues he eventually learned that his pride was no match for God’s power!
Even after agreeing to let Moses and the children of Israel go, in his pride he pursued them to the Red Sea. I imagine Pharaoh is thinking… I got them now! It’s amazing how quickly one can forget that man’s pride is no match for God’s power! God divided the sea, Israel crossed on dry ground, and our Lord drown the enemy in the sea!
Several years ago I recall learning a truth that illustrates this… During the thousand year millennial reign, there is peace as our Lord rules and reigns. What happens next? Satan gathers an army from the four quarters of the earth. Can you imagine living in peace and then choosing to join Satan’s army?
Are you kidding me? This happens because once again, the enemy thinks in his pride he can overcome God’s power. It all started with Lucifer in Heaven. In his pride he thought he would exalt his throne above God’s throne. He was wrong in the beginning and he will be just as wrong in the end! Man’s pride has never been, and will never be, a match for God’s power! Amen. Pastor
