The Passover of all Passovers …

Mark 14:1 After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.
In our text, Jesus is about to be crucified.  It was the time of passover in Jerusalem.   The story of Passover begins with the Israelites’ enslavement in Egypt under the Pharaoh. Moses, a Hebrew raised in the Pharaoh’s palace, was chosen by God to lead his people to freedom. After Pharaoh refuses to release the Israelites, ten plagues are inflicted upon Egypt. The final plague, the death of the firstborn, prompts Pharaoh to relent finally, and the Israelites flee Egypt in haste.  God’s people were instructed to kill a spotless lamb, and apply the blood on the the door posts and lentils of their houses.  Notice… Exodus 12:12  For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.  The firstborn in every home was to die UNLESS the blood was applied as instructed. Exodus 12:13  And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.  Jesus is now entering Jerusalem during the passover.  He will not be the Lamb that puts off our sin from year to year, but rather the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world!  When the Lord looks at your life, does he see that the blood of Christ has been applied.  That’s what happens when we put our faith and trust in Jesus for salvation.   Judgement is coming.  The only way to escape the judgment of God and  “passover” from death unto life is to have the blood of Jesus covering our sin.  Colossians 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
When an individual trusts Christ,  at that moment they may not fully understand, but they have just experienced the Passover of all Passovers! Amen. Pastor
