Fear of Falling…

1 Corinthians 10:12  Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.  Most people have an inherent fear of falling physically.   The scripture above is warning us of the danger of falling spiritually.  Recently I heard on the news about a little boy that fell over the edge at a scenic overlook.  It struck me hard as he lost his life and he was about the same age as my grandson.  I’m not sure what went wrong, but in an instant that family’s life was turned upside down.  God’s people are being warned in our text.  We must take heed, because in an instant we may fall.  Some people live life on the edge.  They see just how close they can live to the sin of this world without falling.  Bad mistake!  Ask David.  I have heard it said that the fall doesn’t hurt, but the sudden stop can kill you!  David was enjoying the pleasures of sin for a while, but then came the prophet Nathan and suddenly there was a reckoning.  David was a man after God’s own heart, yet he fell.  May the Lord help us to realize that none of us are exempt from falling,  that we might take heed!  We should flee the very appearance of evil.  We should watch and pray lest we enter into temptation.   We must hide God’s word in our heart, it is a good defender against falling.  Years ago, while hunting, a tree stand fell with me.  It happened without warning and suddenly.  I was 23 feet above the forest floor.  Upon impact I crushed vertebrae in my lumbar spine.  I was 20 years old when it happened.   I am 66 today and still suffer back pain as a result of that fall.  David was forgiven, but the sword never left his house.  He was unable to build the house of God as a result of his fall.  Lord, please help us to stand, and take heed to your warnings, lest we fall. Amen.  Pastor
