Luke 9:62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. One thing is certain in life, there will be times when the way gets very difficult. What should God’s people do when it seems things are too hard to bear? Let’s think for a moment about our Lord’s journey to the cross. Our text verse teaches us not to look back after we have begun to plow. My dad taught me years ago to plow straight you must fix your eyes on something in the distance and proceed toward that target. If you look down at the front tires you will plow very crooked! If you are looking back you will do the same. The Bible tells us that Jesus endured the cross and despised the shame. He was able to do that because of the joy that was set before Him! He looked down through the ages and saw lost sinners being forgiven, their lives being forever changed, and their names written down in glory! He said yes, the way is hard, but it is worth it! So, when the way gets hard, look ahead! The best is yet to come for God’s dear children! One more thing, when Jesus was going to Calvary there was a man named Simon of Cyrene who was compelled to help carry the cross. When they way gets hard it important to be in a community of other believers. I thank God for those who have helped me through the years! Remember these two things when the way gets hard… We’re not alone, and IT WILL BE WORTH IT ALL WHEN WE SEE JESUS, LIFE’S TRIALS WILL SEEM SO SMALL, WHEN WE SEE OUR LORD! No wonder Job could say… The LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away, blessed be the name of the LORD! Amen. Pastor
