Proverbs 19:11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.  Sometimes it’s difficult to discern how to react when faced with a transgression from another.  Our 7th president,  Andrew Jackson was called a coward by Charles Dickenson.  President Jackson then challenged him to a duel!  Even though the president was hit he was able to fire his weapon at Dickenson fatally wounding him.  The fatal confrontation stemmed from a dispute over a horse-racing bet and insults Dickinson made against Jackson’s wife, Rachel. Even though the president was hit he was able to fire his gun and kill the other man.  Dickenson’s bullet remained in Jackson’s chest causing pain and discomfort the remainder of his life.  One has to wonder… was it worth it?  It would seem to me that a man’s pride took over resulting in a fit of rage.  It’s still happening today.  It takes real spiritual discernment to know when to stand and when to walk away.  Our text tells us it is the glory of a man to pass over a transgression.   Yet another verse tells us open rebuke is better than secret love.  The only way I can see to come out on top is to walk closely with the Lord and follow His leading.
He will never lead us wrong!  Peter cut off the ear of Malcus, Jesus put it back on.  The Son of man came not to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.
Our Lord surely has been patient with my transgressions, I’m trusting He will help me to do the same with others. The scripture tells us, “As much as lieth in you, live peacably with all men.” Amen.  Pastor
