Revelation 2:4  Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.  The Church at Ephesus had a lot going for them.  Jesus saw their works, their patience,  and their unwillingness to tolerate evil and He commended them for it. However,   Though they took the right stand against evil and though they were busy in the work of the Lord,  He had somewhat against them. They had become consumed with the work, and had forgotten to worship.  This is an easy trap to fall into.  It is important that we do the right thing, for the right reason!  Our love for the Lord should be the motive in all that we do.  After all, we love Him because He first loved us.  The church was given instruction as to how they could find their way back to their first love.  First they are told to REMEMBER.  It does us all good to go back in our memory to that wonderful time when we were forgiven of our sin.  We realized the awful price that was paid on the old rugged cross.  We experienced a cleansing and the guilt was gone.  Every child of God can remember the joy that overwhelmed them as they trusted Jesus and the burden of sin was lifted.  Next, the church was told to REPENT.  When we go through the motions in Christianity without the proper motive, it is sin.  Work without worship will soon leave us in a very dry place.  We must repent.
A preacher of yesteryear said this… “If you’ve ever repented, you’re still repenting!”  Saved people get cold at times.  When we remember, and then repent, we are in  good shape to RETURN to that place of blessing.  David said “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, then will I teach transgressors thy ways and sinners shall be converted unto thee.”  David remembered,  David repented, David returned,  and now David is REPEATING the first works.  Only the right work, with the right motive, pleases the Lord. Have you left your first love?  Have you experienced that first love?  Jesus is waiting.
