1 Corinthians 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. In the previous verses in this chapter we learn of some mistakes the children of Israel made in their journeys. God put these examples in the Bible so that we can avoid making the same mistakes. A wise man learns from his own mistakes, a wiser man learns from the mistakes of others!
What causes someone to fall?
Recently a dear lady got her feet tangled in a vacuum cleaner cord. The fall caused her hip to break. Many fall spiritually because they get tangled up in sin. They fail to take heed, as our verse states. Others fall because of obstacles. Throw rugs are a detriment to the elderly especially! We trip over things and end up on the floor! There will be obstacles in the life of the believer. The Red Sea was a huge obstacle to the children of Israel. It was a big problem! But… it was no problem whatsoever for our God! Moses obeyed the Lord, God parted the waters, and the children of Israel crossed on dry ground! Don’t fall because of the obstacle, trust the Lord, He will make a way! Another thing that can easily cause a fall is overconfidence. Many that are healthy have experienced broken bones because they just weren’t paying attention. They think they are standing until they are not! As God’s people we should make sure that our confidence is not in ourselves, but in our Lord. This last thing that causes a fall most have experienced. We fall because the surface beneath our feet is slick! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve hit the ground because of ice, or mud! Some mud is like grease! Let me remind you the devil is slick! He doesn’t play fair. Be sober, be vigilant, he wants us to fall. Thank God our Lord is able to keep us from falling! Look to Him, lean on Him, live for Him, and you will avoid the fall. Amen. Pastor
