Character or Performance…

Colossians 3:23  And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.  Heartily… The breath of life, the vital force which animates the body.  Character in a person is what causes him to do the right thing whether anyone is watching or not.  However,  performance is only concerned with what others see.  As God’s people, we should desire to do what is right and pleasing in His sight regardless of whether anyone else notices.  We become phariseeical when we are only concerned with the applause of men.  At the judgement seat of Christ,  our works shall be tried so as by fire.  The fire does not reveal the size of the work, but rather the sort of the work.  God not only knows WHAT we do, He also knows WHY we do it.  The purest motive for serving the Lord is love.  We love Him, because He first loved us.  The joyful servants are those who desire to bring glory to our Lord, regardless of others noticing.
Serve the Lord with gladness,  let Him keep the record.  Before His throne you’ll be ever so glad you did!  Character is what counts in the end, not performance. Amen.  Pastor
