Daniel 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. The Bible does not explicitly state Daniel’s exact age in chapter 1, though most scholars and traditions estimate he was a youth in his mid-to-late teens, roughly 15 to 17 years old (often cited as around 15) when taken captive to Babylon. Daniel was a prime example of a young person who made up his mind that pleasing the Lord was much more important than the pleasures of this world. He was not going to partake of the king’s meat because it went against the instructions given to Israel by God. When it comes to temptation, you and I better already have our mind made up, lest we fall into the snare of Satan. I thank my God for the young people and young families that have purposed in their heart… we will serve the Lord! Notice another text please… Acts 11:23 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord. It takes purpose of heart to restrain from the things that are wrong. Always remember, it also takes purpose of heart to cling to the Lord and do the things that are right. In chapter 1, Daniel is refusing to do the wrong thing, in chapter 6 we find him praying 3 times a day, as he did before! He didn’t start praying and giving thanks when the king made the decree, he just wouldn’t stop! Thank the Lord for the Daniel’s of today! God give us some more Daniel’s, who will purpose in their heart! Amen. Pastor
