Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Our text today teaches us to prioritize the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. Hold that thought! The title of today’s devotion may seem out of place with our text. I say AMEN. Just as the title and the text do not make sense together, neither does it make sense for someone who knows the Lord Jesus to continually offer to Him leftovers! Many people don’t like leftovers. Personally I’d rather eat leftovers than waste food. But, when it comes to the service of our Lord, leftovers are not acceptable. Leftover time is offered. That is if there’s any time left after we’ve done what we wanted to do. Leftover money is offered. That is if there’s any left after we’ve taken care of our commitments and hobbies. Many have a special talent God has blessed them with, they use it in the world, but somehow never get around to using it for the Lord.
To quote the second portion of James 3:10… My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
God gave His Son, Heaven’s best for us. What a shame it would be to continually offer Him a life of leftovers.
You may ask, what’s in it for me to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness?
I’m so glad you asked! Consider… Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. There is absolutely no substitute in the Christian life for righteousness, peace, and joy. These are byproducts of the Spirit Filled Seek First Life! If there’s no peace and no joy, stop with the leftovers and seek ye first the things of God. You’ll be glad you did, both here, and in eternity! Amen. Pastor
