Mark 15:33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. It is estimated that Jesus hung on the cross for six hours. From 9am to 3pm. In the final three hours there was darkness over the Land. In that darkness hung the creator, who in the beginning said let there be light. In that darkness hung the light of the world. In that darkness hung the darling Son of God for time, so that you and I need not be in outer darkness for eternity. In that darkness hung Jesus, forsaken of the Father, so that He could say to the child of God in Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. In that darkness hung the man who knew no sin, yet was made sin for us that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. In that darkness hung the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.
In that darkness hung the door to heaven. In that darkness hung the one who satisfied the Father. Consider please… Isaiah 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. In that darkness hung the sin of the whole world, in that darkness hung my sin.
Jesus hung in that darkness so that we can walk in the light, and let our light shine in a world that is still groping in darkness.
The crowd could not see in that darkness what was really happening. Thank the Lord, I now can say, I once was blind, but now I see! Our Lord hung for three hours in darkness, so that you and I can go to a place where the sun and moon are not needed for light, for Jesus is the light of that celestial city! Amen. Pastor
