Free to ask God a question, not free to question God…

Mark 15:34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
In this text the humanity of our Lord Jesus is revealed.  He cries
My God, My God, why…  You have probably heard it said, we should never question God.  In a sense this is true.  There is a difference between asking God a question and questioning God.  It’s perfectly alright to ask… Lord, why is this happening?  Why this diagnosis?  Why did this relationship fail?  Lord, where are you?  Why is this happening to me?  These are questions that our Lord will not hold against the believer.  We get in trouble when we begin to question God’s character.  Does God really love me?   Jeremiah 31:3  The LORD appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.  When we begin to doubt God’s word we are setting ourselves up to deny God’s character.   Reminder… GOD IS LOVE!  Is this really working together for my good?  Now wait a minute… Read Romans 8:28  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Our Lord cannot lie!  The enemy of our soul would have us to take our legitimate questions and turn them into an attack on God’s character.  This will quickly prove detrimental to the child of God’s fellowship with God as well as other believers.
When it’s difficult to understand the whys in life, concentrate on the who that hung on the cross.
He made us a way to that place where we’ll never have to ask why again!  Amen.  Pastor
