1 Kings 19:19-20 So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him. And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah… Elisha is plowing in the field, a pretty ordinary occupation for his time. Elijah comes along and let’s Elisha know there’s a job the Lord has for him. Without hesitation, Elisha begins to respond to the call. The oxen were killed, the yoke used to make a fire and cook the meat, and Elisha was off to do God’s will for his life. It wasn’t long til Elijah would be leaving this old world. Elijah asked Elisha what he could do for him. Elisha saw enough to know exactly what to ask for. He asked Elijah for a double portion of his spirit. Needless to say when Elisha took up the mantle of Elijah he was no longer an ordinary plowman, he was an extraordinary prophet! He would be used of God in a mighty way to accomplish twice the miracles Elijah did. God can take an ordinary fisherman like Peter and make an extraordinary preacher out of him. We’ve shared two examples from scripture how God can take an ordinary man and accomplish extraordinary things. One more… me. God took a man from welding and carpentry and put him in the ministry. A man that was shy, backwards, and scared to death to speak in front of an audience. Now that man is a pastor who wants to tell everybody about somebody who can change anybodies life forever! That somebody is Jesus! He certainly is extraordinary! Amen. Pastor
