How much, or how?…

Mark 12:41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.  Jesus in this text is very observant.  His praise for the widow woman was not because of how much she gave but rather because of how she gave.  Paul tells us “The Lord loveth a cheerful giver.”  Many were casting in out of their abundance,  this poor widow cast in all her living.
The two mites were equivalent to 1/64 of a days wages.  The two mites were all she had! Have you ever been called on by the Lord to give sacrficially?
The dear Lord taught me years ago to trust Him.  I hadn’t been saved long when an offering was being taken.   I don’t recall what it was for other than it was a special offering to meet a need.  All I had was 5$.  I took it from my billfold and freely gave it.  That 5$ was to buy my drinks at work that week to go along with the packed lunches my precious wife prepared daily.  My wife saw what I did and on the way home said “Honey that was for your lunches.”  I said I know, but the Lord said give it.  We went home that night and got the family Bible off the coffee table to read.  Tucked inside was a 10$ bill.  Neither of us had any idea how it got there!  All we can think of is a pastor and a missionary visited us weeks prior, it was evident we were poor, perhaps one of them put it there?  We really didn’t know.
What we did know is this… our Lord was teaching us to trust Him!  He can be trusted, ask the widow woman at Zerephath!
She was at the bottom of the barrel but God kept providing meal and oil.  My wife and I are able to give so much more now.  God has been so good.  But I must remember,  my Lord is much more interested in the HOW we give, rather than the HOW MUCH.   Mark 12:43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:  Seems to me that giving is just like all the other things in the Christian’s life… it’s a matter of the heart.  Amen.  Pastor
