Proverbs 23:23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
Bob Barker hosted the game show “Truth or Consequences” from 1956 to 1975. A contestant was brought on stage and asked an obscure, or nearly impossible trivia question. They were given only a few seconds to answer before a loud buzzer sounded. The questions were designed so that contestants would almost always fail—and sometimes contestants purposefully didn’t answer just to play along. When they got the question wrong or ran out of time, they had to face the “consequence”. The “consequences” were elaborate, and often mildly embarrassing physical stunts.
The Christian life is not a game!
There are very real consequences for not telling the truth. In proverbs 6 the scripture tells us that a lying tongue is an abomination to the Lord. Lying is something our Lord hates. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Consider please… Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began. God cannot lie, but you and I are perfectly capable of lying. Just remember, the consequences will be waiting. The first thing we will experience is guilt. Then we will experience a loss of joy. If we continue to lie and cover up, we will face even more severe consequences. Think about David, how he committed adultery, murder, then deceived a nation as he made every effort to cover his tracks. When the prophet Nathan confronted him, he proceeded to come clean with God. But… the consequences remained! His baby died and the sword never left his house. A man after God’s own heart didn’t get by, you and I won’t either! Amen. Pastor
