Proverbs 27:2 Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
There are many Bible characters that come to mind, here are just a few. David. When God was looking for a king, Samuel sought out the son’s of Jessee. David was not drawing attention to himself. He was merely keeping his father’s sheep, and doing a great job I might add! Remember the lion and the bear? God said of David, a man after mine own heart! It was the Lord that drew attention to David! Moses did not draw attention to himself, but served God faithfully. God said of Moses there is not a meeker man in all the earth. It was the Lord that made Moses the leader he was. It was the Lord who drew attention to Moses. Job. Job walked uprightly and eschewed evil.
Yet the Lord said to Satan…
Hath thou considered my servant Job? Again, Job was not trying to gain attention… who would under those circumstances? It was the Lord who drew attention to His faithful servant and gave us a book for the ages… the book of Job! John the Baptist spent his life pointing people to Jesus.
John said He must increase, I must decrease! John never wanted attention, yet Jesus said of John… among those born of a woman there is none greater than John! Lastly, there is a widow woman casting two mites into the treasury. Many no doubt wanted others to see the abundance they cast in, drawing attention to themselves. Jesus told His disciples this widow cast in more than all of them! Again, she did not seek attention but the Savior noticed, and drew attention to her offering. Let another praise thee, don’t live in such a way that draws attention to yourself. Live for the Savior, he notices whether anyone else does or not! That’s all that really matters! Amen
