Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. When I was growing up there were seasons in my childhood and teen years when I had a “best friend”. When we have that kind of friendship with another we are careful not to do or say things that might hinder the friendship. The scripture tells us a friend loveth at all times! A true friend will not bail out in the difficult times. A true friend will be there through thick and thin! Question… when choosing friends, would you choose someone that tried to come between you and your best friend? Would you choose a friend that didn’t like your best friend? In the life of every born again believer there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. His name is Jesus! Truly He is the best friend of every child of God. Now, in choosing friends, would we want someone for a friend that was forever trying to pull us away from Jesus. I think not!
I want friends that enhance my walk with the Lord, not hinder.
David had a dear friend in Jonathan. Jonathan was instrumental in David escaping the jealous rage of Saul, Jonathan’s father. Some may not see it this way, I believe Nathan was a dear friend as well to David. Nathan was willing to point out David’s sin in order that he might repent and have his fellowship with the Lord restored. A true friend is never jealous of your best friend! A true friend desires that you enjoy fellowship with your best friend. Consider…2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? Walk in the light, choose friends who also endeavor to walk in the light. Two friends on earth can enjoy the same friend in Heaven! What a friend we have in Jesus! Amen. Pastor
