The blessedness of brokenness…

Psalm 34:18  The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
No one likes to have their heart broken.   Many things have the capacity to cause a broken spirit in us.  The loss of a loved one, the loss of a friendship, the betrayal of a friend.  All these things and many more can rob us of our joy and cause our hearts to break.  I remember well when my heart was broken over my sinful condition.  There’s a blessing in that brokenness that results in our salvation!  Our text tells us that when our hearts break our Lord draws nigh unto us.  What a blessing to know that in our darkest hour, the Lord will not leave us, but rather draw near us!  There’s another blessing in brokenness.   We that have been broken are in a much better position to minister to the needs of others who are broken.  Consider this scripture… 2 Corinthians 1:4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.  Our Lord draws nigh to us and comforts us, not just for our own benefit but also for the benefit of others.  I heard a preacher say…
“Those who will preach to the hurting will never lack a congregation.” How true this is!
Ever way we turn there are broken hearted people.  May God help us to point them to the only one with the ability to heal the broken hearted,  the Lord Jesus!  I am so glad there is a land that is fairer than day, in that land our hearts will never break again!  Amen.  Pastor
