A Time to Keep Silent …

Ecclesiastes 3:7  A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;  Hear these words concerning the Lord Jesus… Isaiah 53:7  He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.  Did you ever wonder how Jesus could face such cruel mocking and yet not feel the need to defend himself?  He certainly could have defended himself physically and or verbally, but he chose not to.  Here’s a couple thoughts to consider.  He knew His suffering was predetermined and that it was a vital part of God’s PLAN for the redemption of mankind.  The Lamb was slain from the foundation of the world.  Isaiah writes about it, the Psalmist writes about it.  Hundreds of years before the cruel crucifixion God’s men were foretelling  the suffering of our Savior.  Not only was His suffering and silence part of God’s PLAN, but His suffering and silence reveals much about the PERSON of the Lord Jesus.
He could have called 10,000 angels!  When they came to arrest Him in the garden of Gethsemene He spake to them and the power of His voice caused them to fall backwards.
Why did He suffer in silence the way He did when He had such power at His disposal?  The answer is this… Greater love hath no man than this,  that a man lay down His life.  Calvary reveals the love of the Father, God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son.  At Calvary, we see the love of the Father as well as the love of the Son.  His silence as He was being mocked reveals the Father’s plan, as well as Son’s person.  Lastly this is an example for God’s PEOPLE.   As I get older, I realize my duty is to walk with God.  When criticized or mocked we need not defend ourselves.  The Lord said… John 15:18  If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.  What better way to be like Jesus, He said Father forgive them, when we speak, may it be words of prayer for those who are cruel in their deeds and or words. Amen.  Pastor
