Mark 9:24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. Can you imagine having a son who is demon possessed? This had taken place from his childhood.
Cast into the fire, into the water, the enemy tried to DESTROY him. But… dad knew who could help! He no doubt had heard of this man Jesus. Just as the enemy desired to DESTROY him, the Savior desired to DELIVER him! Dad had an IF that needed to be dealt with. IF thou canst do anything… Jesus threw the IF right back in his court.
IF thou canst believe… there it is, our Lord wants us to trust him, in the good times and the bad. The trials are allowed in our lives, not to DESTROY us, but rather to DEVELOP us! Listen to this dad’s response… Lord, I believe, help thou mine unbelief! Humility, honesty, and helplessness brought this man to Jesus. There is a measure of unbelief in all of us, let’s not concentrate on that, but rather on the measure of faith our Lord has given us. Can God, oh yes, God can! This story ends with a dad that is very thankful he brought his son to the one who alone could help him. Are we bringing others to Jesus? Do we believe that at times, bad things happen, not to destroy our faith, but to develop it. Remember this, a faith that cannot be tested, cannot be trusted. Consider… 1 Peter 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Amen.
