1 Kings 17:24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth. God had sent Elijah to this widow woman that she might sustain him. She was down to the bottom of the meal barrel and cruse of oil. The Lord miraculously replenished the meal and oil to provide for the widow, her son, and Elijah.
You would think by now there would be no doubt in this woman’s mind concerning God’s power or God’s man. Then something dreadful happened… the widow’s son died. Now she is thinking that Elijah’s presence in her home has brought her sin to remembrance and caused her son to die. Strange, is it not, how quickly one’s thinking can be altered by tragedy. Elijah carried the boy upstairs and laid him on his bed. He then prayed to the God of Heaven and stretched out his own body over the lad. The boy’s life was restored, and the widow now makes this declaration… NOW BY THIS I KNOW that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth. She believed because she saw the evidence before her eyes. Is there evidence in our lives that Jesus is alive, that God is good, and that the Word
of the Lord is true. If you and I were hauled into court today, and accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence in our lives to convict us? Truly there are people all around us that are dead in trespasses and sins. Will any of them examine our walk with God and come to the conclusion… NOW I KNOW?
Our lives as Christians should be pointing others the Lord. Lord, grant this day that your people may be salt and light in the world, that others may see, and glorify our Father in Heaven. Amen. Pastor
