Hebrews 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. The people God mentions in Hebrews 11 realized that they were not at home in this world. An old gospel song declares… “This world is not my home, I’m just passing through, my treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue, the angels beckon me, from Heaven’s open door, and I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.” Where is your treasure today? Where you find your treasure, you will also find your heart. This story illustrates this truth perfectly…
Anonymous writer, about an American tourist’s visit to the 19th century Polish rabbi, Hofetz Chaim:
Astonished to see that the rabbi’s home was only a simple room filled with books, plus a table and a bench, the tourist asked, “Rabbi, where is your furniture?” “Where is yours?” replied the rabbi. “Mine?” asked the puzzled American. “But I’m a visitor here. I’m only passing through.” “So am I,” said Hofetz Chaim. I’m afraid we as God’s children put far too much emphasis on those things that will one day go up in smoke. May the Lord help us this day to realize that we’re on a journey, just passing through, as we travel to our real home, the place the bible calls Heaven. My real home is up there on high. Where’s yours? God wants you to be sure! Amen. Pastor
