Running from God…

Jonah 1:3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.
There are three people in the  Bible that come to mind immediately when I think of running from God.  The first is Moses. He ran to the desert.  The second is Peter. He ran to the sea.  He said I go a fishing!
Then in our text we find Jonah.
He ran to Tarshish.  Notice the phrase… from the presence of the Lord! Really?  How do you run from someone who is omnipresent… meaning everywhere!  Listen to the Psalmist… Psalm 139:7-10 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.  Have you failed the Lord? Moses did, Peter did, Jonah did as well!  There’s no need to run from Him.  RUN TO HIM!  I can tell you from the scripture and from experience…
FAILURE IS NOT FINAL!  There’s a God in heaven who is willing to have mercy on us, pick us up, and allow us to serve Him once again.  Ultimately the purpose of God was performed in all three of these mens lives.  You might say, pastor, you have no idea what I’ve done.  Just remember… Jesus already knows!
You can run, but you can’t hide.
Why not pick up the pieces and take it to Jesus.  He is the God of all grace.  He will forgive you and use you for His glory. Amen.  Pastor
