Mark 12:1 And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country. Please read here Mark 12 1-17. A parable is defined as a story that compares or sets things together to convey a moral or spiritual lesson. Simply stated, an earthly story to illustrate a Heavenly truth. Jesus often used parables to convey spiritual truth. Our Lord is speaking to a sect of religious people called the Pharisees. They despised Jesus, therefore they opposed His teachings. In this parable, God is the owner of the vineyard, the vinedressers are the rulers of Israel and the vineyard represented the people of God as a whole.
The owner of the vineyard, was very patient. He sent messenger after messenger, even though they were all abused and mistreated. Then the vinedressers were very foolish. They apparently thought that if they killed the owner’s son, the owner would then just give up and let them have the vineyard. The owner (God) sent messenger after messenger… (the prophets), and there message was rejected. Now the owner sends his Son, which represented Jesus. The purpose of this parable is to rebuke the religious rulers of the day. John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. And…Mark 12:10 The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:
Every man, woman, boy, and girl, will stand before God one day. Those who have RECEIVED the Savior will enter into life eternal, those who REJECT the Savior will experience the judgement of almighty God. John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
A sobering thought. Amen. Pastor
