True Peace…

Genesis 15:15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
In 1555, Nicholas Ridley was burned at the stake because of his witness for Christ. On the night before Ridley’s execution, his brother offered to remain with him in the prison chamber to be of assistance and comfort. Nicholas declined the offer and replied that he meant to go to bed and sleep as quietly as ever he did in his life. Because he knew the peace of God, he could rest in the strength of the everlasting arms of his Lord to meet his need. So can we!
In our text we find the first mention of peace in scripture.
God was assuring Abraham that he would live a long life, and leave this earth with peace in his heart.  Abraham was called the friend of God.  Jesus said “Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.”
When it came time for Enoch to leave this world the Bible says “Enoch walked with God, and he was not.”  God took him home!  My prayer is that when the time comes to leave this world, God’s children will be able to experience the same peace that Abraham did.  There is peace in salvation, peace on the journey, and there will peace at the end of the way for all of God’s friends.  Only true peace will hold up in the face of death.  True peace, what a blessing!  Amen.  Pastor
