John Kenneth Galbraith, in his autobiography, A Life in Our Times, illustrates the devotion of Emily Gloria Wilson, his family’s housekeeper: It had been a wearying day, and I asked Emily to hold all telephone calls while I had a nap. Shortly thereafter the phone rang. Lyndon Johnson was calling from the White House. “Get me Ken Galbraith. This is Lyndon Johnson.” “He is sleeping, Mr. President. He said not to disturb him.” “Well, wake him up. I want to talk to him.” “No, Mr. President. I work for him, not you. When I called the President back, he could scarcely control his pleasure. “Tell that woman I want her here in the White House.”   When you and I trust Christ as Savior,  there is a deep devotion to Him and His cause.  It won’t be long till other voices come on the scene.  If we’re not careful those voices will pull us away from the devotion to our Lord we once had.  In the story above, it was the President who was asking Emily to do something that she refused to do!  She did not hesitate to  decline the request because she KNEW who she worked for.  You and I need to remember who it is we serve, His name is Jesus.  Listen to our Lord’s admonition in John 10:5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.  Learn His voice, listen closely to His voice,  and then obey His voice.  In so doing, it will be obvious to those around you just exactly who you work for!
