Can I Have Your Attention Please?

1 Corinthians 7:35 And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.  The Apostle Paul in our text is referring to the marriage relationship.  Some have the gift to live alone, devoting their full attention to the Lord.  In our generation,  there is much more than family to distract us from giving the needed attention to the things of God.  There are sports, video games, social media, hobbies, work, as well as all sorts of pleasure that are constantly competing for our attention. There is nothing inherently wrong with any of these, UNLESS they tie us up to the point that we no longer have time, or the desire, to give attention to our blessed Lord.
Could it be that the Savior is saying to someone reading this… “Could I have your attention please?”  Hebrews 12:1  Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.  Could it be that there is something that is hindering your walk with God that needs to be laid aside?  After all the Lord has done for us, is it asking too much to give him our attention?  I’m afraid at best, even when we do, many times it is not our undivided attention.
Attention, without distraction,  will only come as we determine to lean on Jesus.
Lord, please help us in this area.
Amen.  Pastor
